Sputnik V to cost 995 Rs per dose. Made in India shots may be cheaper
Sputnik V Vaccine (Imported) price will include a five percent GST per dose. Nevertheless, doses of Sputnik V made in India are likely cheaper.
However, the dose of the vaccine has been administered in Hyderabad as a part of a soft launch. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory has confirmed today that the price of the subsonic b vaccine will be 995 rupees per dose. The price of all the imported vaccines will include 5% of GST per dose.
The vaccine doses will be available from the next week, said the center as there is a shortage of vaccines in many states. The first consignment of imported doses of the Sputnik V vaccine reached India on 1st May 2021, after it was cleared for emergency use in India on 13th April.
Efficacy of Sputnik V
The 3rd vaccine which is now soon available in India and, Sputnik V, has an efficiency of 91.6%. Sputnik V has a higher efficacy compared to the other Covid vaccines, that are currently being supervised in India:- Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Oxford-AstraZeneca’s Covishield, manufactured by the Serum Institute of India.
After Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, Sputnik V is one of only three vaccines in the world with such an effectiveness rate. The two-dose vaccine has authorization granted globally and, in the global market, the price is less than 10$. More than 20 lakh people worldwide have taken doses of Sputnik V.

The vaccine is available in both liquid and powder form. The liquid form of the vaccine should be sored, at an 18-degree Celsius temperature and the powder form is between 2 to 8 degrees. The stability tests for both are ongoing.
In 2020, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratory partnered with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) to supervise clinical trials of Sputnik V in India and for its distribution rights.
So far, India has received only 150,000 doses of this vaccine from Russia. Dr. Reddy’s laboratories have confirmed that they will soon receive more doses from RDIF. The agreement between the companies said that India will receive 250 million doses of the vaccine, which will be sufficient to vaccinate 125 million people. Still not cleared when all the doses will arrive in India.
Comparison with other vaccines
If we compare the price of Sputnik V with other vaccines, Covishield is manufacture by serum India. The price of Covishield, for States, is rupees 300 and, the price to private hospitals is Rs 600 per dose.
Bharat biotech’s Covaxin is the most expensive vaccine in the portfolio of India. Price for states is rupees 400 and 1200 per dose to private hospitals.
Therefore, if we see the efficiency of other vaccines, Sputnik has an efficiency of 91.6%. Which is the 3rd highest in the world and Covishield and Covaxin have an efficiency of 90-93%.
